GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) — An 18-year-old man turned himself in five days after he allegedly killed a cyclist in a hit-and-run crash, the Galveston Police Department said.
Officials report that Aiden Prause of Cypress surrendered to authorities on Friday, and he is facing a second-degree felony charge for leaving the scene of a collision involving injury or death.
GPD said they responded to the fatal crash on the morning of Nov. 16 in the 2300 block of 53rd Street.
Investigators said a man was riding his bicycle when a white or silver pickup truck, believed to be a Ford with a ladder in the bed, struck him.
A witness reported that the vehicle drove away after the crash. Officers said the witness called 911 and waited for help to arrive.
GPD said the victim was identified as 77-year-old Fidel Estrada of Galveston, who was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Officials said Prause’s recommended bond is $100,000. They have not said whether he has posted bail.
