Houston man, Andres Hernandez Torres, charged in home invasions where suspects allegedly posed as police and kidnapped victims

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — According to court documents, Andres Hernandez Torres was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping. Torres appeared in court on Saturday morning.

A judge said he is allegedly connected to a series of home invasions where people posed as police officers, tied victims up, and held them at gunpoint.

“Dress up as officers, knock on the door, and when the door was open, under representation of being officers, they would conduct home invasions,” the judge said.

Court documents showed Torres was charged for a home invasion that happened in July in East Houston.

“They tied one person up, stole several items from that person, including additional firearms,” the judge said.

Court records alleged Torres was “the getaway driver for two home invasions where the complainants were hogtied with zip ties and held at gunpoint while their property was stolen and the gunmen were impersonating law enforcement by wearing what appeared to be bulletproof vests with the word, ‘officer’ on them.”

The judge mentioned that Torres was one of multiple defendants.

“Those other two defendants are dead because one of those home invasions resulted in the homeowner in Texas shooting them, and those two defendants are deceased,” the judge said.

This was not Torres’ first run-in with the law.

His criminal record showed charges dating back to 2014 that ranged from a felony charge for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon to a misdemeanor for assault and bodily injury.

“There is a criminal history here that involves violence. More violent offense arrests than other types of arrests,” the judge said.

The judge said because of that history, she set his bond at $350,000 for the aggravated robbery charge.

He is not eligible for a personal bond, according to the judge. She said Torres will get his bail set for the aggravated kidnapping charge when he gets to trial court.
