HPD said ‘no one taken against their will’ after multiple reports of child abduction outside Lewis Elementary School in SE Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A southeast Houston neighborhood was on heightened alert all day, worried about reports of a little girl being kidnapped in front of a school.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Houston police say no kidnapping of a child ever happened. This is after three different law enforcement agencies were involved.

The incident began just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday outside of Lewis Elementary. Houston police initially were called to the school for an alleged kidnapping of a little girl, but they say they can not find any evidence that a crime occurred.

ABC13 spent the day in Glenbrook Valley, at the scene of the investigation, and saw numerous Houston police officers, Houston ISD officials, and even FBI agents on the ground. They spoke to neighbors and canvassed for video.

Initially, they were looking for a dark four-door sedan, and even located surveillance video of a car that fit that description. Then, they were looking for a black SUV. But shortly after school let out for the day, the Houston Police Department told ABC13 they determined no crime had actually occurred. This was shocking considering how much effort was put in by so many law enforcement agencies.

HPD had no additional information to share, but law enforcement sources told ABC13 that it’s likely something happened, possibly between two adults in the area. However, because it happened during school drop off, it’s possible a witnesses mistook it for a kidnapping. ABC13 asked HPD if they are investigating this for a domestic violence situation, and they said they’re not aware of that either.
