HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A pedicab driver says she and her 16-year-old son survived a violent attack in east downtown thanks to a can of bear spray.
Police are still looking for the men who they say attacked Reveta Fuller Sept. 5 in the 2000 block of Rusk. (Officers say there are three suspects, however, Fuller said there were four attackers.)
Fuller said she and her son had just picked up four men from Little Woodrow’s when she noticed that their $40 payment hadn’t gone through.
“I asked them about the payment, but they just got up, walked away,” said Fuller, adding that she “probably got a little mouthy when I wanted my money.”
That’s when she said one of the men approached her son and grabbed him by his throat.
Fuller said she began punching the man to get him to let go of her son.
She said the man then forced her to the ground and began punching her while another held her down.
“I thought I was gonna die. I thought I was gonna be in the bayou. I did,” Fuller said.
Fuller said she was saved when her son sprayed the men with bear spray.
“When bear spray now, when that thing sets off, everything around is going down. Everything around, so all four men went down at that point,” said Fuller.
Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspects. They’re described as Hispanic men in their mid-30s.
Fuller said the attack hasn’t kept her from working.
“I know what I signed up for when I’m outside. I’m a woman who works outside, so I know what comes along with that and you have to be prepared, and that’s why you have to have something on you,” Fuller said.
