SPRING, Texas — Need some steps? Square dancing is a traditional American folk dance with lots of turns and moves.
In Houston, there are more than a dozen square dancing groups, including The Bluebonnet Squares.
Phil Henderson is the group’s past president.
“A lot of people have become friends over square dancing. A lot of people have come together and gotten married during square dancing,” Henderson said.
Geraldine Gregor has been dancing for 52 years.
“I love square dancing. It’s the best thing anyone can do for themselves,” Gregor said. “It’s very fulfilling to be part of the group.”

The 75th National Square Dance Convention is in Waco from June 24-27, 2026.
