Ground stops possible at Bush, Hobby airports due to staffing

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The FAA is warning that ground stops are possible Tuesday evening at Bush and Hobby Airports due to staffing shortages amid the government shutdown.

While air traffic controllers are considered essential employees and have been advised to continue reporting to work, many called out sick during past shutdowns.

Specifically, the FAA said it’s concerned about staffing levels at its Houston TRACON facility, which handles air traffic for 16 Houston-area airports.

According to the FAA, a ground stop is possible at Hobby and Bush, the FAA said, until 8 p.m.

As of 5 p.m., flights at both airports are running on time. However, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is experiencing 30-minute delays due to staffing.
