HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — SH-146 after Texas Avenue was closed for several hours on Wednesday after a truck experiencing a mechanical issue began smoking, HCSO officials said.
According to a City of Baytown official, a tanker truck carrying a type of gas experienced a mechanical failure and was forced to pull over sometime after 1 p.m. They added that a hazmat crew responded to the scene and all lanes of the highway were expected to be closed for several hours.
Air monitoring for the area was in place and no evacuations were necessary, the Baytown city official said.
Baytown officials urged drivers to use alternate routes as there was no estimated time for the highway to reopen.
