Teen accused of firing shots at man who confronted him for driving erratically, police say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — He’s only 19 years old and court records show that he’s already facing several charges just this year alone.

In this latest incident this week, investigators say Devonn Jean shot at a man who confronted him about the way he was driving.

Investigators say it happened on Tuesday outside his home on Pinewest Court in east Harris County when a man on his way home followed Jean to confront him for driving erratically.

“That gentlemen, says you got out of the truck, went inside the house, came out with a rifle and started shooting at him as he was driving away,” a Harris County magistrate said.

According to court documents, Jean told deputies he didn’t have any guns but after giving them consent to search, they found one in his truck.

Those court documents go on to say, Jean admitted to arguing with the man but denied shooting at him.

“So they went around and knocked on doors from your neighbors. And they found video from at least one neighbor’s house that supposedly shows you chasing after (the victim’s) vehicle, shooting at (his) vehicle with a rifle,” the magistrate said.

Court records show the shooting happened at the time when Jean was already out on bond for a previous crime.

In May, court records show he was charged with making a terroristic threat to his ex-girlfriend. This coming nearly two years after records show he was convicted for unlicensed carrying of a handgun and sentenced to spending 51 days in jail.

“There’s a young lady, supposedly an ex-girlfriend who claims you were making threats to shoot up her house. You were saying things like, texting her, ‘On my way, got my draco.’ You’ve got bond conditions in that misdemeanor case that include no firearms and a GPS device,” the magistrate said.

The magistrate says investigators could tell by reading the GPS data that Jean violated a curfew order.

He’s being held on $50,000 bond.
