Officers temporarily reassigned, internal investigation underway after man found dead in wooded area of north Harris County: HCSO

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has temporarily reassigned a deputy and a sergeant after the body of 66-year-old Mark Hamilton was discovered in a wooded area of North Harris County, according to Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland.

On Oct. 3, the sheriff’s office says they received multiple 911 calls just after midnight about an injured man in a wooded area near 16750 Road Oak Drive.

HCSO says a deputy and sergeant responded to the scene at different times, but were unable to locate the injured man.

At 10 a.m., an HCSO deputy responded to the same location regarding a deceased person and eventually located the victim at an encampment in the woods, according to the sheriff’s office. They added that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says the man had obvious signs of severe trauma, and they are conducting a homicide investigation.

HCSO says both the deputy and sergeant are undergoing an internal affairs investigation to determine if proper policies were followed.
