SANTA FE, Texas (KTRK) — It’s a disturbing story that Santa Fe police say they’re actively investigating as a criminal act.
A lieutenant with the department told ABC13 that they are looking into three instances of sewing pins found in candy thrown at Wednesday night’s homecoming parade.
Jeremy Partin said his young children were in attendance and received a Kit Kat bar with a pin strategically placed into its packaging.
“They stuck it under the flap (on the back of the packaging),” Partin said.
Partin said both of his kids who attended the parade were under 10, but it was his 18-year-old daughter waiting at home who found the pin after she rummaged through the candy haul.
“The world’s getting scary,” he said.
Police say the three pins they’re investigating were discovered in candy that was thrown along different parts of the parade route.
They also tell us they’ve received additional calls regarding the incident from concerned members of the community.
ABC13 has learned the parade was officially sanctioned by the Santa Fe Independent School District.
Police say they’re working with the district to identify who might have been on each float that participated in the event.
ABC13 reached out to the school district for more information, and they referred us back to Santa Fe police.
If you attended the parade, you’re asked to check your candy and call the Santa Fe Police Department at 409-925-2000 if you find anything suspicious.
