HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities say a man is dead following a possible shootout at an apartment complex in the Fifth Ward area Thursday night.
The Houston Police Department said officers responded to the 5300 block of Coke Street near the East Freeway at about 10:35 p.m. and found an 18-year-old man who had been shot.
HPD said the man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
“It seemed like there was a shootout, possibly because there are multiple kinds of shell casings that have been found, including two different kinds of pistol rounds and AR cases as well,” HPD Lt. Khan said at the scene.
So far, police have not identified the victim, and no arrests have been made.
ABC13 cameras captured a bullet hole in a nearby apartment window. HPD said thankfully, no one else was hurt.
Eyewitness News spoke to some residents at the Cleme Manor apartments. They said they are relatively used to the sound of gunshots around the area, but that whatever happened Thursday night, they said they heard way more than what they’d consider “normal.”
Police have not released any information about a possible motive.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to call HPD at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
