Kristina Chambers found guilty of running over man on first date with her Porsche

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Houston woman has been found guilty of running over a man with her Porsche while he was out on a first date in Montrose.

Late Thursday afternoon, a Harris County jury found Kristina Chambers guilty of manslaughter. Prosecutors had alleged that Chambers was drunk and speeding in 2023 when she plowed her Porsche into Joseph McMullins, who was walking along Westheimer with his date. The couple had just left Voodoo Donuts after their first date when McMullins was hit.

The surveillance video of the horrific crash that killed McMullins was shocking in 2023, and according to the family’s attorney, a crucial part of the criminal trial this week.

“It was an overwhelming amount of evidence that Ms. Chambers was drinking, high, being reckless, driving down an urban street,” said Rand Nolen, who is representing the McMullin family on a separate, civil case against Chambers.

Prosecutors had tried to paint a picture of a wealthy young woman who wanted to show off her new Porsche to friends. They also alleged that she had visited several bars before speeding through the intersection that fateful day.

Defense attorney Mark Thiessen tried to convince the jury it was an accident. He had alleged that the Christian Louboutin high heels Chambers wore the night of the crash got stuck on the gas pedal, causing the accident. In the end, the jury rebuffed that defense.

Neither defense attorneys nor prosecutors spoke to the media after the verdict.

About two dozen members of the McMullin family and friends packed the courtroom. Tears were shed and lots of hugs were shared after the verdict was rendered Thursday afternoon.

“This is a beautiful family, something horrible has happened, there will be a missing chair forever today is a good day for them,” said Nolen.

The punishment phase of the trial begins Friday morning at 9 a.m. Chambers faces anywhere from 2 to 20 years behind bars.
