Husband of Spring ISD police officer arrested after hours-long SWAT standoff at a home on Lazy Springs Lane, HCSO says

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — Deputies say a SWAT standoff involving the husband of a Spring ISD police officer ended peacefully Sunday night.

At about 7:15 p.m., the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a disturbance at a home on Lazy Springs Lane, where they met the off-duty Spring ISD officer and her 15-year-old child.

The woman reportedly told deputies that her husband had been drinking all day and was in the house with their two other children.

“Units approached the door, trying to get the individual to come out, but he wouldn’t. He refused, and so we ended up getting a warrant since he was holding the 18-year-old and 10-year-old,” HCSO Major Joseph Blendermann said.

Investigators said hours later, just after 10 p.m., the two kids came out unharmed, but the suspect stayed inside.

Blendermann said another few hours passed before the suspect eventually surrendered at around midnight.

Thankfully, deputies said the standoff ended without any injuries. They said the man now faces charges of family assault and unlawful restraint.
