Body camera video released in pregnant woman’s slaying at a homeless encampment behind a Harwin strip mall

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police have released body camera video of officers responding to a shooting that claimed a pregnant woman’s life and injured two others.

An officer was conducting an unrelated traffic stop nearby at the time of the shooting at a homeless encampment behind a Harwin strip mall just after 2 a.m. on Oct. 16.

The officer fires about a half dozen shots in the direction of the initial gunshots, but police say the officer’s bullets didn’t hit anyone.

Surveillance video obtained by Eyewitness News shows a man opening fire into a crowd of people after an apparent argument.

Men and women go running in all directions, and the officer’s gunshots can be heard, sending the suspect running.

Pashinae Drumgo, who was pregnant, was struck in the lower back and leg and died from her injuries hours later.

Two other men were also shot but survived. One was struck in the ankle; the other in the leg.

Minutes after the shooting, police caught up with Ronnie Mitchell at a nearby Whataburger.

He’s been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for shooting the two men.

No charges have been filed in Drumgo’s murder. When police were asked about this last month, they said charges would be forthcoming.
