HEDWIG VILLAGE, Texas (KTRK) — By a sheer stroke of luck, a Hedwig Village police officer says the suspects wanted for shooting a Houston police officer drove right past her minutes after the shooting.
Houston police officer Jake Parker was on his way to work in his personal vehicle when he was shot at Gessner and Hempstead Highway in what police are describing as a road rage episode.

Hedwig Village police officer Julie Buhs said she was wrapping up a traffic stop on Echo Lane near the Katy Freeway when a pickup truck with underlighting and a ‘bad influence’ sticker drove past. She recognized the vehicle as the suspects’ after hearing a description on the police radio.
As the truck drove by, Buhs said she locked eyes with the driver.
“No nervousness,” she said. “He literally just looked at me. I looked at him. I’m like, that’s the vehicle that HPD’s looking for.”
Buhs said she made a U-turn to follow the truck and deactivated her emergency lights to avoid drawing attention to herself.
Meanwhile, she radioed Houston police officers to let them know she had the suspects in sight.
“Hey, I’m behind your white pickup truck with the blue underlighting,” she can be heard saying on police radio transmissions.
“Keep trailing while we wait for more resources,” a Houston police officer tells Buhs.
Buhs followed the suspects east on the Katy Freeway, south on the West Loop, and eventually down Highway 90.
By the time they made it to an industrial park in Missouri City, Houston police were overhead in a helicopter and had several units on the ground.
Buhs said she left the arrests to HPD, which said it took a man and two women into custody. Police said the man would be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
“I feel like he would have gotten caught, but I don’t know if he would have been as caught as soon if I had not seen them,” Buhs said.
