HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police said a woman was in the hospital fighting for her life after being shot by someone she knows.
Investigators said it happened before 7 p.m. Thursday in the Alief area at Ashford Casa Bella Apartments on Beechnut Street near Cinnamon Lane.
Police said a man was taken into custody after the shooting later that night.
According to the Houston Police Department, he’s facing an aggravated assault charge, along with a charge of being a felon in possession.
Law enforcement said when they arrived, they found a 42-year-old woman shot multiple times in the lower portion of her body. They also said the victim told them who shot her before she was rushed to the hospital.
Investigators say shortly after the shooting, they received a call about a suspicious person with a weapon nearby and took the man into custody in connection with the woman’s shooting.
Law enforcement remained tight-lipped about the man’s identity, though they did confirm that the suspect and victim are in a relationship.
Neighbors who spoke to ABC13 said they hope she will survive.
