HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department is investigating a shooting that officers said started as a fight during a party in a short-term rental that left a 17-year-old critically hurt.
Authorities said they were called out to the 2700 block of Blodgett Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Lt. Ali said officers arrived to find a large group of teenagers gathered around a boy who had been shot in the abdomen.
At that moment, another teenager with a gunshot wound to the foot approached the officers. Both teens were taken to a nearby hospital, according to Ali.
Detectives from the Major Assaults Division said both victims are 17-year-old boys. The teen shot in the abdomen remained critically injured as of Sunday morning.
Investigators said more than 70 teenagers were at the party. They added that a fight between two girls broke out at the party just before the shooting and continued into a parking lot across the street.
Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and trying to identify the shooter.
HPD said the investigation is ongoing.
