HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police are investigating two shootings at parties at two different short-term rental homes across the Houston area overnight.
Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 captured sounds of gunshots and fireworks up above as police confirm five people were shot at a short-term rental home on Live Oak near Elgin.
Police say four of those injured needed to be taken to the hospital, and the fifth had a graze wound.
On Thursday morning, as people left the property on Live Oak, they declined to speak with ABC13 about what happened.
HPD says people at the party are cooperating very little as authorities work to determine who did this and why.
Police say after 2 a.m., there was another shooting at a different short-term rental property on Yorkshire, where two people were hurt.
HPD confirms one of the two victims is a man who is critical at the hospital after being shot in the chest.
On Thursday, Jan. 1, a new short-term rental ordinance goes into effect in Houston to regulate and limit situations like the shootings from overnight.
Neighbors along Live Oak tell us they support the new ordinance that will require short-term rental owners to pay annual fees, have emergency contacts for the properties around the clock, and prohibit rentals from being advertised as event spaces.
Law enforcement is looking for anyone with information on either of these shootings.
