HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — One teen is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting in northeast Houston on Saturday, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD says that 911 calls came in for a shooting at 11:35 a.m. on North Wayside Drive. Upon arrival, officers say they found a green SUV crashed with two male teenagers inside.
“We believe the shooting happened on the property of the apartment complex. Then the vehicle that was shot upon, in an attempt to get away while fleeing, crashed at its resting location,” HPD Homicide Detective Kyle Heaverlo said.
Police say both teens were removed from the vehicle and were transported to a hospital. One teen was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other is in critical condition, HPD said.
HPD believes that the incident is potentially drug-related.
“We don’t have a lot of information, but the information that we do have and have gathered thus far at the early stages of this investigation leads us to believe that possibly a drug deal was going down or that this shooting is motivated due to a potential drug transaction,” Heaverlo said.
According to police, details are limited regarding information on the suspect.
