HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Kanneshia Penrice says she remembers the last conversation she had with her sister, Shyta Campbell.
“Never knew it was going to be the last time I would just talk to my sister,” Penrice said. “She was like, ‘I’m ready to do what I have to do. I’m ready to move, get on moving with my life and everything.'”
Penrice says that was a week before Campbell was shot to death at this apartment complex in northwest Houston.
According to Houston police, multiple people were arguing outside an apartment unit where the victim was. They say that, at some point, they made their way to the front door and shot a woman. A department spokesperson told ABC13 that three children inside weren’t hurt.
At this point, they haven’t publicly identified the victim.
Penrice told ABC13 that those kids were not her sister’s children and that her sister didn’t live in that specific apartment.
She also says this isn’t the first time her siblings have dealt with a tragedy.
“We lost our mother when we were a young age, 7, 5, and 2. So we were all split up, so it’s like, we all started over at 30-something years, just rekindling our relationship,” Penrice said.
As the search for the people responsible for her sister’s death continues, she’s relying on her faith to help her family get through this difficult time.
“I don’t hold no will towards him or anybody else. I’m going to leave it in God’s hands and let him handle it,” Penrice said.
