CROCKETT, Texas (KTRK) — New video shows a deputy rescuing a driver from a burning car outside of Crockett, in east Texas, after a major crash on Wednesday.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said the two-vehicle crash happened on Highway 21 West, leaving one driver pinned inside their car.
The deputy is seen in body camera footage running to the burning car with a fire extinguisher to help rescue the man trapped inside.
According to the sheriff’s office, three fire extinguishers were used, which deputies say helped prevent severe burns.
“With the help of bystanders and other agencies, our deputies were able to get the victim removed from the burning vehicle and begin giving first aid to both victims of the wreck,” the sheriff’s office said. “Undoubtedly, without those fire extinguishers, the victim would have been severely burned or worse, burned alive.”
Investigators say they were able to get that person out and to a hospital. It’s unclear what caused the crash.
