HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A giant hole in the middle of the road in an east Houston neighborhood has since been fixed, according to neighbors.
The video above is from the initial report.
The pavement collapsed near Sylvan Road in the Idylwood neighborhood. When an ABC13 crew arrived, the hole was filled entirely with water.
People in the area said at least two cars, as seen in the video above, fell into it.
“The car just kind of sank into the hole, and it’s sort of sticking out a little bit. There are people trying to help get it out, and it was just wild,” Idylwood resident Candice Hurtado said.
Houston Public Works said the pavement collapsed because of an underground infrastructure issue after a water leak.
Officials said the water in the area was shut off as crews worked overnight to repair it. On Sunday morning, residents in the area said the hole had been filled.
