Father reaches out to ABC13, saying he wants to explain why he shot a teenager on Westview in Spring Branch

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A father reached out to ABC13, saying he wants to explain why he shot a teenager he says was threatening both his and his son’s lives.

Houston police said they are still trying to sort out exactly what happened, but the dramatic shootout unfolded Friday on Westview near Silber in Spring Branch.

Houston police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

They say it’s too early to say if charges could be coming.

“I didn’t engage anyone until I was being shot at by an automatic weapon,” a father who called ABC13 Monday morning said.

His name is Ro, and he said he wants viewers to know why he shot a teenager on Friday.

ABC13 agreed to hide his face because he said he’s worried about retaliation.

It was about 4 p.m. when Ro said he got a call from his 15-year-old son, asking for help.

Ro said he grabbed a gun and drove to a nearby bus stop.

That’s where he claims a young man pointed a gun at him and his son.

“I even screamed, ‘No, don’t do it.’ Little did I know that they already had their intentions set,” Ro said. “He hit him and then hit me and then began firing wildly in the area. Like, almost like he lost control.”

Ro claims he and his son were hit by bullet fragments.

And that’s when he said he started shooting back, hitting the shooter multiple times.

“He asked for help. He was bleeding out. He was wounded, but now he was unarmed, so I provided the first aid medical on scene,” Ro said.

Ro said he’s a paramedic and helped out until police arrived.

Police tell ABC13 the man who was shot was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Ro said police later arrested his 15-year-old son, accusing him of possessing a gun during Friday’s shooting.

The father is worried that he, too, will be arrested, even though he claims he was acting in self-defense.

“I do have concerns that they will turn around and attempt to prosecute me,” he said. “Even if it’s unsuccessful, the financial burden will sink us.”
