HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It’s the best of both worlds for Strake Jesuit College Preparatory senior Johnny Hebert.
“It’s really preparing you for the future, for college and even beyond that”, Hebert said about Strake Jesuit.
He is an excellent student, making all A’s and a couple of B’s in the classroom.
“I always loved the English classes here. And also I’ve always kind of been the math guy,” he said.
In addition to being a classroom scholar, Johnny is on the field competing and producing rushing yards rarely seen.
“I have five brothers, and so we play football on the street every single day,” Hebert said. “I’m grateful for my older brother, he’s three years older than me, and because I got to play against him, I think that really helped me develop the drive and the love for the sport.”
In 2024, he ran for 3,542 yards, the most in the state and the second-most in the nation.
“Having a bunch of siblings, you kinda learn pretty quickly that it’s not all about you”, he said.
This year, he’s picked up right where he left off a year ago. He’s run for 1,933 yards and 24 touchdowns in just seven games.
“I think if you’re playing the game just to put up good stats, you’re not playing the right sport, like football is not the right sport for you”, Hebert said. “It’s a team sport. You can’t do what you do without other guys doing what they do. It’s a selfless sport. I try to keep that mentality when I play.

Fresh off an official visit, Johnny has committed to the University of Houston in the fall.
Q: “Is it what you hoped it would be?
A: It really is. Everything I hoped and even more.”
He’s told ABC13 that he is excited to play at home and values the bond he’s built with running backs Coach Jordy Joseph.
“The relationship he’s taken the time to build with me has meant so much to me”, he said. “I already see him as a family member, now it’s like an uncle, almost.”
“What sets the program apart is the culture that they have”, Hebert said.
“I think Coach Fitz has done an unbelievable job building that at UH, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
