BELLAIRE, Texas (KTRK) — The public could soon learn the fate of Bellaire Police Chief Onesimo Lopez, who was placed on leave three weeks ago.
According to the City of Bellaire council agenda, members will discuss the chief’s employment on Monday.
Chief Lopez joined the Bellaire Police Department in 2019 after 24 years at the Pearland Police Department.
Lopez was promoted to chief in 2021, and according to the department, he manages 59 people, both civilians and officers.
He was suspended with pay on November 24th, with city officials only saying the matter does not concern public safety and has no effect on police services.
Multiple sources tell ABC13 the issue is connected to Chief Lopez contacting an outside agency to investigate some of his command staff, but there have not been answers on exactly what that means.
ABC13 has requested the chief’s internal personnel documents.
The city council meeting on Monday starts at 6 p.m.
