Burning Man officials said the man was lying on the ground in “a pool of blood,” with the sheriff’s office confirming he was an event participant.
The man has not been identified and was taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances,” Burning Man officials said on its website.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office at 775-273-2641.
