CONROE, Texas (KTRK) — A Conroe municipal judge is back on the bench as he awaits his own day in court after a DWI arrest, Conroe officials tell ABC13.
According to authorities, 34-year-old Municipal Judge William Waggoner was arrested early Wednesday morning on McCowan Street in the City of Montgomery, accused of driving while intoxicated.
A representative for the City of Conroe said the city is aware of the judge’s arrest. The officials also say that Waggoner is back at work on the bench.
ABC13 received this statement from Conroe officials:
“The City is aware that our Municipal Judge, Will Waggoner, was arrested early this morning for a possible DWI and UCW. No one is above the law, or immune from making mistakes. It is an unfortunate incident and as with any arrest, one is not guilty until proven so. Judge Wagonner is an elected official and he is still the sitting Municipal Judge. We will not comment on the facts of the case.”
Waggoner is also facing an unlawful carrying of a weapon charge. The Montgomery County DA explained to ABC13 that someone could get that second charge if they’re caught with a weapon when they’re arrested for a misdemeanor.
Waggoner was elected as a municipal judge in Conroe in 2022. Montgomery County Election information confirms he’s also running for the Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 seat.
ABC13 reached out to Waggoner to speak about his arrest. Waggoner stated he will provide a statement in the future.
