A murder charge was filed against 27-year-old Da’kayla Dailey, who investigators say is accused of fatally shooting her stepmother, 69-year-old Kathy Brown.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on social media Frida y that said the shooting stemmed from the suspect reportedly being upset that Brown did not have any money.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said a man working on Brown’s pool heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the house in the 21300 block of Hannover Forest Drive.

When deputies arrived, they said they found the victim dead in the kitchen with several gunshot wounds.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the only other person in the house was Dailey.

The loss of Brown sent shockwaves through the community, saddening neighbors.

“She was kind to everyone on the street. She always had a good thing to say to everybody, so it’s quite a shock,” Deena Collins said.

The following day, Dailey made her first appearance in court and had her bond set at $250,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
