Disney Channel stars and classic throwbacks shine as Destination D23 wraps with tributes, concerts and celebration

Destination D23 has come to a close, wrapping up the celebration in true Disney fashion.

Over the weekend, Disney pulled back the curtain on a packed slate of upcoming projects across Marvel Studios, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation and Disney+, as well as what’s ahead for Disney Parks, cruises and special events.

Pixar had a lot to celebrate, including the 30th anniversary of “Toy Story,” which returns to theaters Sept. 12 for a special re-release. But that wasn’t the only “Toy Story” news that made waves.

Fans got their first look at “Toy Story 5,” coming to theaters June 19, 2026.

“Zootopia 2,” in theaters Nov. 26, 2025, revealed new cast additions, including Patrick Warburton as Mayor Winddancer and Yvette Nicole Brown as both EMT Otter and Baroness Bear.

Walt Disney Animation introduced “Hexed,” a new original feature debuting in November 2026. It follows a teenage boy and his perfectionist mom who discover his odd behavior is actually magical. Their journey leads them to a hidden realm where magic runs wild.

“TRON: Ares,” arriving Oct. 10, 2025, will feature a score by Nine Inch Nails. Starting Sept. 15, the TRON Lightcycle Run rides in Florida and Shanghai will temporarily be re-themed to celebrate the film.

On Disney+, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw” premieres Dec. 5. Based on the third book in Jeff Kinney’s best-selling series, the animated film follows Greg Heffley as he clashes with his dad’s expectations and faces a personal ultimatum.

The final day of Destination D23 brought plenty of celebration and nostalgia.

Fans were treated to a Disney Channel stars panel featuring familiar faces from across the years, a tribute to 80 years of “The Three Caballeros,” and a high-energy 80s and 90s concert to close out the weekend on a musical high note.

If you’re feeling the post-D23 blues, don’t worry D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event will return to Anaheim in August 2026.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Marvel Studios, Pixar and this ABC station.
