Family of man found dead at abandoned building in southwest Houston pleads for justice

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The southwest Houston abandoned business where a man was found dead last week has now been cited by the city’s Public Works department.

According to the family, 25-year-old JaDarious Roberts was found at an old Wells Fargo building at Hillcroft between Richmond and Westheimer on the second day of the year, wrapped in a tarp.

“It’s shattering, it’s life-altering,” his aunt, Sharon Johnson, said. “I just want to say my heart goes out to all mothers that have lost a child.”

Houston police said he had been shot and said there’s “a very good possibility” he was killed elsewhere and brought here.

The case remains under investigation.

Records show 27 complaints have been filed with the city about the building since Wells Fargo moved out in September 2023.

Many violations are for standing water, but several are for squatting, as far back as February 2024.

Houston Public Works has now cited the building for stagnant water and graffiti.

“He deserves justice,” Johnson said. “Nobody deserves to die like that.”
