HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It was a quiet, typical Friday night for Raquel Osorio as she served dinner to her customers near Blalock Road and Kempwood Avenue. However, what was unusual was the absence of one of her regular weekend customers, who was killed in a shooting earlier this month.
“I feel sad, because you’re not going to see him anymore, someone who would stay here and would talk,” said Osorio.
Friday, Nov. 7, the Houston Police Department said a man was found shot to death in a vehicle parked near her food truck. HPD identified him as 50-year-old Gerardo Villalobos Salgado.
Osorio says over the last two months, he became a frequent customer she got to know, someone who left her with fond memories.
“Someone that would stay here and would talk, and he would come with other people, he would make other people laugh, he would joke around.”
She tells ABC13 that on the night of the shooting, she saw Salgado pull up in his vehicle. When Osorio stepped away from the window, it was then that she said shots were fired.
Now, police say they are looking for Edwin Leonel Caal Gill, who they are calling the suspect. He’s already been charged with murder. Court documents reveal the 41-year-old has been arrested before on misdemeanor charges.
“You would never think that, while you’re doing something real quick, then to come to the window, and take the order, something like that would happen.”
Osorio says other business owners knew the victim, too, and all want to know what led up to this tragedy.
HPD is conducting a homicide investigation and has not released a motive in the murder.
