BROOKSHIRE, Texas (KTRK) — The City of Brookshire’s former mayor pro tem is in more legal hot water tonight after picking up two additional criminal charges.
Back in March, ABC13 first reported that the City of Brookshire voted to turn over documents to the Waller County District attorney’s office against its former Mayor Pro Tem, Jeremiah Hill.
At that time, Hill was already facing charges that he illegally used funds from the Brookshire Economic Development Fund, which he controlled at one point, to pay for farm animals he bought at a school charity auction. But Brookshire leaders believed he was responsible for additional fraud.
Specifically, current Brookshire city leaders say Hill is accused of pocketing a $16,400 check for work done on a city building that they say was never done.
Hill’s own attorney told ABC13 that in the new indictment, prosecutors accuse Hill of pocketing that $16,400 check. He says Hill was also charged with tampering with a government document for allegedly falsifying records associated with the check transaction.
Hill turned himself in Tuesday morning, with his attorney expecting Hill to post bond sometime on Wednesday.
Hill had previously pled not guilty to the livestock purchase criminal charge. His attorney says the latest charge is a paperwork mistake, and they are working to clear it up. In the meantime, he expects Hill to also plead not guilty to those charges as well.
