Fort Bend County drivers will pay more to use toll roads in new year

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — As Fort Bend County grows, so do its toll road prices. When residents ring in the new year, they can expect to see a bigger tab if they hop on the Westpark tollway, Grand Parkway, and Fort Bend Parkway.

“I’m not liking it because it’s already high enough. I mean, yeah, it’s not pretty good for me,” Fort Bend County resident Andrew Campos said.

According to the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority, for drivers with toll tags on two-axle vehicles, the Grand Park will jump from 46 to 47 cents, the Fort Bend Parkway will go from 75 to 77 cents, and Westpark tolls will go from 82 to 84 cents.

This hike also applies to the FM 1463 plaza, where drivers will have to pay 84 cents.

“Not only do I have to deal with the Fort Bend tollway, I have to deal with the Beltway 8, too, so I have to deal with two ways, and now Fort Bend is about to increase it,” Fort Bend County resident Jarious Richardson said.

So, why the jump in costs?

According to the county’s toll road authority, under what’s called the toll rate order, the rates must be increased by either two percent or the regional inflation rate from last year, whichever is higher. The department reports that since last year’s rate was 1.1%, there will be a 2% bump when you see your toll bill.

“If you think about it, it adds up over time. Every day, every day. If you add it up together, it does go to a lot,” Campos said.

If you don’t have a toll tag, expect an even higher bill. According to the toll road authority, drivers will have to pay an extra 25 cents at all locations.
