HERSHEY, Pa. — Frightening video shows a young boy walking along the monorail track in Hersheypark.
According to a statement from Hersheypark, the young boy was reported missing just after 5 p.m. on Saturday after becoming separated from his parents.
While crews looked for him, the boy entered a secure area for the monorail ride, which the park says was closed at the time. Officials say the ride was safeguarded by a chained closure at the entrance and barricaded turnstile at the platform during the time of the incident.
The child remained at the closed station for about 20 minutes before he began briefly walking along the monorail track, the park said.
Video captures crowds gathering below the tracks trying to guide the boy to safety as he was in danger of falling off the rail. Eventually, a park guest climbed onto the rail to rescue the boy.
After the boy was spotted on the tracks, park officials immediately responded and reunited the child, who was unharmed, with his parents around 5:30 p.m.
“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” officials said in the statement.
