From operating room to the finish line: The inspiring journey of a runner with two new hips

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston’s Carrie Bradshaw loves to run. She has been running most of her life, but after competing in 10 marathons and having two children, her hip pain became unbearable, “I just couldn’t walk at that point.”

At age 40, doctors told her she had congenital hip dysplasia. It’s a childhood condition that was caused by her hips not developing correctly. Multiple doctors told Carrie her running days were over. That is, until she met her miracle doctor, Dr. Greg Stocks.

Carrie said, “he was the only doctor who gave me the green light and some hope that I was searching for. He said there’s a chance you’ll run again.”

Carrie underwent two hip replacement surgeries. Her recovery was grueling, but Carrie was determined to be a marathoner again. Six months after her second surgery, Carrie was given the go-ahead to resume training, “I feel so lucky that I get to do the thing that I love again.”

After her surgery, Carrie qualified for the Boston Marathon. Her goal in the Chevron Houston Marathon is to set a unique Guinness World Record. Carrie said with a smile, “I want to set the World Record for fastest marathon time with bilateral hip replacements. Let’s be honest, there is not much competition, but someone has to do it. Let’s see what these puppies can do, let’s set a record together.”
