HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting involving alleged police impersonators in an attempted home invasion in southeast Houston overnight, according to officials.
It happened at around Friday 11 p.m. in the 4800 block of Bellnole.
Officials said the suspects arrived, and allegedly stated they were there to serve a warrant and were seen wearing bulletproof vests, ski masks, and badges around their necks.
At one point, they tried to force their way in and opened fire through the front door, causing the homeowners to shoot back, officials said.
HPD said that the homeowners were not injured, but did hit both suspects. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The homeowners spoke with the police and said they thought it was unusual that they didn’t hear sirens or see police cars once the suspects showed up.
In an update, HPD noted there was a child inside the home at the time, but they were left unharmed.
HPD said that it is reviewing doorbell camera footage as the investigation continues.
