HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A traveling veterinarian based in Houston was charged with sexual battery of a minor. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested 52-year-old Gregory Ford in Florida on Wednesday.
According to law enforcement, the teenager said she had a sexual relationship while she was traveling with Ford, a veterinarian who provides services across the country.
A federal affidavit claimed in August, the teen’s mother filed a report with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department in Alabama about her daughter having a sexual relationship with Ford. According to the mother, when her daughter turned 15 years old, she began working with Ford at his veterinary practice.
The affidavit described Ford as a traveling veterinarian specializing in performance horse care. It said his practice is based out of Houston, but that he travels to shows, races, events and home visits across several states, including Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi.
The teen’s mother allegedly said she went through her daughter’s cellphone and found sexually explicit texts between the teen and Ford, where they discussed plans to have sex.
The daughter was also interviewed by the sheriff’s office and allegedly admitted she and Ford had sex three or four times and sent nude images to each other. The affidavit claimed the images were sent while she was living in Alabama and Ford was in different states for work.
After that police report was made, Ford allegedly sent a threatening message to the mother. Court records said a month later, Ford sent the teen’s mother a message that read, “If you choose to continue your crusade, I have already paid a dear friend from the CIA to long rifle a bullet in your chest.”
On the same day, the affidavit claimed Ford also left the teen a voicemail as well. He allegedly said things like, “I dated, I married, and I never knew true love, and how special a heart could be until I met yours.”
On Sept. 23, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested Ford after receiving information from an FBI agent about an incident of sexual abuse with the teen at Ford’s residence in Marion County.
The sheriff’s office said he was placed under arrest and taken to jail, where he remains without bond. According to online jail records, Ford is due in court on Sunday morning.
Because of the traveling nature of his profession, law enforcement said they believe there may be more victims across the country. Anyone with information about other potential victims is asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
