Houston Food Bank volunteering: Nonprofit looking for people to join Share Your Holidays phone bank this December

Sign up now for a shift Monday, Dec. 1 – Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, at the Houston Food Bank located at 535 Portwall St.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Food Bank needs your help answering the calls of our neighbors requesting meals this holiday season.

They’re looking for volunteers to join the ABC13 Share Your Holidays phone bank. They also have an urgent need for Spanish speakers to volunteer.

The ask is simple.

Volunteers will register people by phone to receive holiday food boxes.

The demand is normally so high during this time of year, it can lead to long wait times for those calling to receive a meal.

Shifts are available starting Monday, Dec. 1 through Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Houston Food Bank.

Create a volunteer profile, then sign up by looking for red shifts on the Houston Food Bank website.

In addition, no experience is necessary.

Before each shift starts, Houston Food Bank staff will be on hand to give a 15-minute training. Once volunteers are seated, each will receive a binder with information.

Staff will also be available to answer questions.

Sign up on the ABC13 Share Your Holidays page.

But you don’t have to wait until December or the holidays to help.

You can donate to the Houston Food Bank online or text SYH2025 to 71777.

Donations will go toward whichever programs need it the most, which at this time is government shutdown relief.
