CROSBY, Texas (KTRK) — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged rooster-fighting ring in Crosby on Saturday.
They say deputies found about 300 roosters alive and about 50 dead.
A spokesperson with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says that at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, they received a tip from someone in the area about roosters fighting at a home around Dranek Road.
When deputies arrived, they said they could hear roosters. ABC13 was told by the sheriff’s office that there’s a mobile home and an open area on the backside where caged matchups between the roosters were allegedly being held. Another spokesperson with the department says that when they arrived, many people started to leave while deputies were questioning the homeowner.
“We didn’t know two properties around the back were opened up, so that’s when we locked down the scene, and that’s when we started canvassing the area. And that’s when we saw multiple other people on the properties, so we started detaining and identifying everybody, and everything like that. And started to realize what we all had with all the roosters and paraphernalia and all that stuff,” Sgt. Clinton Nash said.
The sheriff’s office says the homeowner is still being questioned, and no one has been arrested. According to the sheriff’s office, the roosters are expected to be taken in by the Humane Society of Harris County.
