GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A juvenile has died following a water rescue from the Texas City Dike on Sunday, according to officials.
Texas City officials said they received a 9-1-1 call for a water rescue after two young people were in the water near the boat ramp. Texas City says members of its police, fire, and EMS departments responded to the scene.
Furthermore, officials say windy conditions at the dike also led to the hospitalization of six first responders. Officials said the conditions pushed the boat into rocks, causing it to flip over.
They say four of those first responders remain in the hospital and are being monitored.
One of the juveniles was pronounced dead, and the other’s condition is not known at this time, according to officials.
Two of the six first responders were released from the hospital; the four remaining are still hospitalized, officials confirmed.
