Liberty County mom Jessica Quintana claimed husband took phone and car keys before she tried to drown her kids, deputies say

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Investigators say a Liberty County mother claimed her husband took her phone and car keys the day before she’s accused of trying to drown her kids and herself.

Jessica Quintana has since been released from the hospital and charged with aggravated assault and two counts of injury to a child stemming from the Sept. 29 botched drowning at her 300-acre estate.

In a probable cause affidavit, sheriff’s deputies say Quintana told them that she and her husband had been having problems.

They say she told them that on Sept. 28, he had taken her phone and refused to give it back.

When she attempted to leave with her three children, she told them she discovered her car was locked and that her husband had the keys.

It’s then they say she told them that she took her children to a pond on the property along with a bag filled with alcohol and Nyquil.

Deputies say she told her children they had to “go” because she couldn’t live with her husband anymore and that she feared if she died, no one would be able to protect them from him.

Investigators say Quintana began drinking and had her children follow suit, telling them to drink until they felt fuzzy.

Quintana’s 15-year-old daughter allegedly told investigators that the plan was for them to drink themselves unconscious and for Quintana to then roll them into the pond.

Deputies say her six-year-old son told them Quintana assured him and his siblings they wouldn’t feel anything.

Just before 6 a.m. on Sept. 29, deputies say Quintana’s husband, Domingo, called 911. Authorities found Quintana in the pond with her children on the banks along with empty bottles of alcohol and Nyquil.

Investigators say her 15-year-old daughter’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Quintana’s attorney told Eyewitness News that he doesn’t know when his client allegedly gave a statement to deputies, but that any statement given after he was hired was “unlawfully obtained.”
