HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man was found dead after firefighters put out a fire at a home that was for sale, the Houston Fire Department said.
HFD said they responded to a house fire on Southmont Street in the South Park area around 3 a.m. on Saturday.
According to investigators, firefighters quickly put out the fire and found a man inside who had died before they arrived.
Images from the scene showed a “For Sale” sign on the lawn, and officials confirmed that no one appeared to be residing there at the time.
HFD said the man who died was possibly a squatter because they contacted the homeowner, who said they weren’t aware anyone was there.
HFD said it is investigating the cause of the fire, while HPD is conducting the death investigation.
