HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man was shot while waiting for an Uber in northeast Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO said deputies responded to the 12200 block of West Village Drive around 5 p.m. on Saturday. They described a man in his early 50s getting inside his Uber when a black truck drove by and started shooting at him.
“The suspect vehicle pulled up and fired a couple of rounds at the victim and sped off,” Sgt. Apolito Hernandez said.
Marcus Patton said the person shot was his neighbor.
“He is a quiet, low-key dude,” Patton said. “Minds his business. He cooks food. Sells plates.”
The sheriff’s office said the victim was shot in the cheek and a neighbor drove him to a fire department, where he got medical attention.
From there, authorities said an ambulance took him to the hospital.
“As far as we know right now, the male victim is in stable condition in surgery,” Sgt. Hernandez said.
The Uber driver ultimately did not get injured in the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. But they said his car was hit by a bullet.
“At the time of the shooting, the Uber drove away and called the sheriff’s office,” Sgt. Hernandez said. “Once we arrived on scene and secured the scene, he came back. He’s one of the witnesses that we’re going to talk to right now.”
Patton said he called to check on his neighbor, but he hadn’t answered yet. Still, Patton said he’ll keep trying to get through to him.
“I’m keeping in contact with him,” Patton said. “See what’s going on. See if he’s alright.”
HCSO did not have a suspect in custody or a description. They believed this was an isolated incident. The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to reach out to them.
