HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — One week after a man was gunned down while waiting at a southwest Houston bus stop, his family is asking the public for help identifying his killer.
Shawn Malveaux, 52, was one of 15 kids and a father to three of his own, his family said.
They said he had just gotten food at the Popeye’s on West Bellfort near Gessner last Tuesday around 7 p.m. and was trying to catch a bus when he was shot twice.
“The guy just pulled the gun out and shot my brother in the left side of his neck and then in his chin, so he was aiming to kill him,” Malveaux’s sister, Lashonda Guillory, said.
Guillory said her brother’s murder was captured on surveillance video, which she said detectives described to her.
She said the suspect, who police describe as a masked Hispanic man, appeared to be looking for her brother and had peered into the Popeye’s just minutes after her brother had left.
“He looked in and I guess didn’t see my brother, and then he went on to look,” Guillory said.
She said the suspect eventually approached her brother while he was seated at the bus stop.
Based on what detectives saw on the video, she said it didn’t appear her brother feared the suspect as he approached.
“Which led us to think this is possibly someone he had met before or had known,” she said.
Throughout the encounter, she said the suspect kept his face hidden.
“90-something degree weather and he had a black t-shirt wrapped around his face,” she said.
“I know the person that did it, if he has any kind of conscience, it’s gonna eat him up. It’s gonna eat him up,” the victim’s niece, Ashley Malveaux, said.
Malveaux’s family says they’re determined to bring his murderer to justice and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
“Put yourselves in our shoes. How would you feel if your sibling or your loved one was taken in this kind of way?” Guillory said.
