More alleged victims come forward after Houston-based traveling veterinarian charged with sexual battery of a minor, attorney says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A traveling veterinarian based in Houston was charged with sexual battery of a minor last month in Florida. The attorney representing the victim said more alleged victims are coming forward.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said 52-year-old Gregory Ford was arrested for sexual battery of a victim between 16 and 17 years of age in September.

The criminal complaint said the teen’s mother filed a report with a sheriff’s office in Alabama about her daughter having a sexual relationship with Ford.

According to the mother, her daughter started working at his veterinarian practice when she turned 15 years old.

Attorney Spencer Kuvin, the chief legal officer and litigation director at GOLDLAW, said he’s representing the victim.

“Dr. Ford was actually very good friends with the parents of this young girl,” Kuvin said. “It’s one of the reasons why the parents felt comfortable with having their child, who at the time was 16, intern with Dr. Ford and travel with him on occasion to go to these different events so that she could get trained as a veterinary technician.”

The affidavit described Ford as a traveling veterinarian specializing in performance horse care, with his practice based in Houston.

The criminal complaint said he traveled to shows, races, and events in multiple states, including Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Mississippi.

” Dr. Ford was heavily involved in the barrel racing world,” Kuvin said. “He would travel and he would have one or two or maybe even three young girls that would go and assist and become veterinary technicians for the show.”

Kuvin said the teen’s mother went through her daughter’s cellphone and found sexually explicit texts between the teen and Ford. The criminal complaint said the daughter allegedly admitted to law enforcement that she and Ford had sex three or four times.

“Initially, the young girl thought she was in love. So, she was upset at her mother. She was mad. She was scared. She was frustrated,” Kuvin said. “Her anger turned away from her mother and toward Dr. Ford, realizing what he had done and how he had manipulated her.”

Because of the traveling nature of his profession, law enforcement said they believed there may be more victims across the country.

Since Ford was charged, Kuvin said he’s personally spoken to at least four other victims from different states.

“Through our discussions with the FBI, who are continuing this investigation and the hotline that they’ve set up, we’ve uncovered that there could be upwards of anywhere between 12 to 15 potential victims of Dr. Ford over the years,” Kuvin said.

Authorities have not confirmed to ABC13 any other victims or charges against Ford yet.

“There were a number of young girls that were receiving the exact same messaging from Dr. Ford,” Kuvin said.

In part of a statement sent to ABC13, allegedly written by the teenager in this case, she said, “What should have been a positive, career-building experience was turned into something deeply damaging and harmful.”

Kuvin said victims in these kinds of cases can sometimes blame themselves for the situation and not want to talk about what’s happened.

“While you might feel guilty and you might feel upset about what happened and feel like there’s some blame on you, there’s not,” Kuvin said. “It’s not your fault.”

Kuvin said Ford’s arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 28. Currently, Ford is still in jail in Florida.
