Mother accused of killing two children, injuring two others in Brazoria County, Sheriff says

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A mother accused of shooting four of her children in a car early Saturday has been charged, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said they responded to a gas station on FM 521 and Highway 288B near Angleton just before 5 a.m. after the mother called saying she needed them at the location. When deputies arrived, they reportedly found four children with gunshot wounds.

Authorities said a 13-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. A 9-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy were flown to a Houston hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Investigators said the suspected shooter is the children’s mother, 31-year-old Oninda Romelus. The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office says there is evidence showing that the shooting happened inside the car. Romelus was the driver, investigators say, but they have not shared where the shooting happened, whether it was at the gas station or at a different location.

Romelus is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond has been set at $14 million.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
