Neighbor fatally shot trying to break into another apartment in north Harris County, sheriff says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A resident shot a neighbor to death Wednesday morning, who was allegedly trying to break in, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The scene unfolded in the 21700 block of Inverness Forest at about 6 a.m.

At the scene, deputies learned the man who was shot lives in the complex and was reported as a neighbor of the suspected shooter.

Sgt. Sidney Miller with the sheriff’s homicide department said the suspect and his family were inside the apartment when they were awakened by the breaking of glass. The suspect then saw a person breaking into his apartment and shot him multiple times.

According to deputies, the victim was able to run away before he fell and died. The suspect who fired the weapon has been detained, Miller said.

Authorities said a couple of children were inside the apartment, but none of them were hurt.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
