Pedestrian killed after being hit by 6 to 8 vehicles at Jackrabbit Road and FM-529, Harris County Sheriff’s Office says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead after being hit by several vehicles on Wednesday morning.

According to Sgt. B. Bondurant with HCSO, the pedestrian was hit at about 5:15 a.m. at Jackrabbit Road and FM-529, shutting down the intersection. After talking to witnesses, Bondurant says they believe the man was hit six to eight times.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the man may have been trying to cross the road or was standing in the number one westbound lane of FM-529 and not in a crosswalk when he was hit.

Two drivers involved stayed at the scene and are cooperating, and do not appear to be impaired, Bondurant added. He said the initial drivers who hit the man and fled are facing charges of failure to stop and render aid, causing death.

“We are looking for possibly six vehicles who struck this pedestrian and killed him,” Bondurant said.

The sergeant said they’re looking for vehicles with front left damage. Anyone with information can contact HCSO at 713-274-7400 or Crime Stoppers if they want to remain anonymous at 713-222-TIPS.

Bondurant said the roadway would be closed for another two hours as the investigation continues. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
