HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A person was arrested after allegedly shooting a 10-year-old who was playing a door-knocking game overnight in southeast Houston, according to Houston police.
The shooting happened near the 9700 block of Rancine just after 11 p.m. on Saturday.
The Houston Police Department stated that the 10-year-old and their friends were playing “ding-dong ditch” when they arrived at the home on Mimbrough. Officials said that is when someone came out and opened fire, hitting the child several times.
HPD said the child’s condition is critical after being taken to the hospital by a family member.
The person who opened fire eventually surrendered after officers used a bullhorn and had to urge him to come out of the home with his hands up.
Crews on scene also saw a woman and a young child in the doorway of the house, who were moved back inside.
Shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, officers were seen dropping the person off back at the home where the shooting happened,
Officials did not elaborate on whether there were any other injuries.
An investigation is underway at this time.
