A pothole on the East Freeway in Houston on Thursday night caused a traffic mess and resulted in at least 10 cars needing new tires, HPD says.
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A pothole on the East Freeway in Houston caused traffic problems Thursday night and damaged the tires of at least 10 cars, according to HPD.
Officers said there was a rock near a freeway joint in the pothole, but Houston TranStar called it road debris.
According to TxDOT, a joint in the road is an intentional gap in the concrete that helps reduce stress on the roadway.
Traffic backed up after HPD said they blocked three out of four lanes on the westbound East Freeway at Uvalde Road.
Officers said at least 10 cars ran over the hazard and got flat tires.
ABC13 has contacted TxDOT for more information and is waiting for a reply.
